FedEx Ground to Build a New Facility in Winston-Salem, NC

Winston-Salem Business Inc. is pleased to announce that FedEx Ground, a subsidiary of FedEx Corporation has selected Winston-Salem for a new package distribution center.

FedEx Ground has contracted with Regional Development Group, Inc., an Orlando, FL based real estate developer, to construct the new, 115,000 square foot facility on a site in Union Cross Business Park. Regional Development Group, Inc. has purchased a 17.6 acre site in Union Cross Business Park and plans to start construction immediately. The new facility is estimated to generate 208 jobs including office personnel, package handlers, and truck drivers. It will replace a 30,000 square foot facility currently located on Thurston Road in Greensboro.

Brad Stanbery, terminal manager for FedEx Ground in Greensboro indicated that the reason for the new facility is the continued strong growth of the division and the central location in the Piedmont Triad Region. “Our facility serves the Piedmont Triad area as well as parts of Southern Virginia. We are experiencing strong growth in this market. This new facility will give us the expansion room we need and provide a central location from which to serve our market.”

FedEx’s strategic alliance partner, Fischer & Company, the Dallas based national commercial real estate service firm, represented FedEx in this decision. “This is a more centralized location for FedEx Ground’s pick-up and delivery service,” said Stephen Sanders, Vice President of Fischer & Company. “The Union Cross Business Park is an ideal location for service to the Winston Salem and Greensboro areas.”

FedEx Ground is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is the second largest small package ground carrier in North America. They ship approximately 1.5 million packages every business day with over 35,000 employees and independent contractors and more than 9,000 vehicles.
